Multi-Tiered System of Support

A multi-tiered system of support helps to ensure that all students receive mental health support and intervention throughout their academic career. For example, students receive programming through universal supports like school counseling lessons and health and wellness classes in Tier 1. Students who require additional support may receive Tier 2 or Tier 3 services through our school counseling department, student assistance counselors, or ASPIRE Program.

Telehealth Information

The School District of the Chathams is committed to attending to the social and emotional needs of our students. We are aware of the impact the pandemic has had on our students including difficulties with academic focus, social disengagement and emotional regulation. In an effort to assist students, our district has instituted an after school telehealth counseling program with a focus on regulating emotions, problem solving, coping skills and building resiliency. The program will consist of weekly 30 minute counseling session with a district counselor assigned to your child, typically for a period of at least four weeks. The counseling sessions will take place after school hours at a date and time that is convenient for both your child and the counselor. The Google Meet platform will be used for these telehealth sessions. If you would like to have your child participate, please complete the Google Form below. Your child will be assigned a counselor upon receipt of the consent form. The counselor will have a brief virtual meeting with you to introduce themselves and answer any questions you may have.

Telehealth Information: Free telehealth counseling provided by school district counselors, social workers and school psychologists, is available to students after school hours. Parents may refer their child for these virtual services using the Telehealth Referral Form.

ASPIRE Counseling Program

Throughout the school year, the district worked to build a Tier 3 Mental Health Support Program for students in need of intensive mental health supports within the district. This work has included an expansion of the current Telehealth Program and the hiring of two mental health specialists that will provide counseling supports on an individual, group, and family component to a small number of students that require this support.

Students identified as requiring individualized and ongoing mental health support will receive counseling on an individual and/or group basis on a frequency determined with the clinician and student/family. This can be as frequent as daily support, and will have a required family component to ensure consistency of service and support within and outside of the school day.

These clinicians will be able to support students experiencing severe mental health concerns and support both the student and the family in remaining within the district and help to ensure that they receive the support they require to remain successful and access their education.
